WSWIA Means Business!
Never leave home without business cards and be generous with them.
Use business card etiquette. When you give someone a business card, ask for a one in return. Really look at it, then show the person he/she is important to you by placing the card in your wallet.
Nametags
Wear your nametag on your right, just below your collarbone, in the line of sight during handshakes. This is also a helpful visual aid for people who can't remember names, and it allows maximum eye contact.
Wear your nametag high enough so that it will not be covered by anything such as tables, crossed arms, or material you may be carrying.
Make sure your nametag does not get turned around backwards, or write your name on both sides just in case.
Write your name large enough to be visible from several feet away.
Have a clear understanding of what you do and why, what makes you different from others doing the same thing. Be able to articulate it briefly and concisely, and adjust what you say to each situation or function.
Be able to articulate how others can help you. How would you answer, “How can I help you?” if it comes up in conversation.
Do not be afraid of being seen as pushy. Being open, friendly and interested in what other people do does not turn people off.
Stand up, smile and make eye contact when you meet someone.
Offer a firm handshake.
Pay attention to names when you meet people. Worst case , people are very forgiving about their name if you are able to recall their face later.
Ask open-ended questions that ask who, what, where, when, and how, as opposed to those that can be answered with yes or no.
Be genuine and authentic in seeing how you can help others.
Let your passion about your work come through!
Approach people who are standing alone or who are speaking in groups of three or more. People standing alone may be nervous, and one-on-one networking is the best kind .
Sit by people you do not know well.
Follow up right away after the event.
Send a hand-written note with your business card to everyone you meet. Please visit our exhibitors and sponsors:
